Morphology

Scapes20-50 cm long, terete.
Leavessessile.
Blades8.5-14 cm long x 6.8-9.0 cm wide, dark green, mottled (rarely not), mottling fading with age.
Flowersessile.
Sepals38-60 mm long x 5-12 mm wide.
Petals40-80 mm long x 8-12 mm wide, maroon or purple basally, green to yellowish green towards the tip, occasionally entirely purple, slightly twisted or not.
Anthers13-20 mm long, with latrorse dehiscence.
Ovary5.5-10 mm long, hexagonal.
Stigmas6-10 mm long, distinct.

Anthesis

Flowering from early Aprl to mid May.


Distribution

United States: Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.
