Morphology

Scapes11-40 cm, terete.
Leavespetiolate.
Blades12-18 cm long x 8-20 cm wide.
Flowerpedicellate.
Sepals13-37 mm long x 4-10 mm wide.
Petals20-50 mm long x 10-20 mm wide, white with red at the base, the red often extending along the veind, or entirely white, margins undulate.
Anthers2-7 mm long, with extrorse dehiscence.
Ovary3-10 mm long, trigonal to terete.
Stigmas3-10 mm long, scarcely connate at the base, white.

Anthesis

Flowering from late April to June.


Distribution

Canada: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec.

United States: Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.
