Morphology

Scapes6-18 cm long, terete.
Leavessessile.
Blades5-12 cm long x 6-10 cm wide, mottled, mottling fading with age.
Flowersessile.
Sepals17–42 mm long × 5–9.5 mm wide.
Petals25-55 mm long x 6-10 mm wide, maroonish, purplish, or with yellowish streaks, rarely spirally twisted.
Anthers4-20 mm long, with introrse dehiscence.
Ovary5-10 mm long, hexagonal.
Stigmas2-4 mm long, distinct.

Anthesis

Flowering from early March through April.


Distribution

United States: Georgia and South Carolina.
