Morphology

Scapes14-40 cm, terete.
Leavessessile.
Blades7-15 cm long x 4.6-6.7 cm wide, mottled, mottling fading with age.
Flowersessile.
Sepals22-50 mm long x 5-7 mm wide.
Petals40-70 mm long x 7-17 mm wide, red, maroon, or purple, rarely purple basally and yellow towards the tip or entirely yellow, not spirally twisted.
Anthers10-16 mm long, with introrse dehiscence.
Ovary8-11 mm long, trigonal or terete, rarely hexagonal.
Stigmas2-4 mm long, distinct, purplish.

Anthesis

Flowering from early February to early April.


Distribution

United States: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
