Morphology

Leavessessile.
Blades5-8.3 cm long x 2-3.3 cm wide.
Flowersessile.
Sepals13-20 mm long x 5-7 mm wide.
Petals28-66 mm long x 20-40 mm wide, twisted (or not), red, maroon, purple, greenish tan or bicolored.
Anthers4-6 mm, with introrse dehiscence.
Ovary6-7 mm long, hexagonal.
Stigmas3-4 mm long, distinct.

Anthesis

Flowering from February to early May.


Distribution

United States: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
