Description
A Panicoid grass to 100+ cm tall. A basal winter rosette is present and usually well-differentiated from the culm leaves.
Spikelets 1.1-2.1 mm long, dorsally-compressed, 2-flowered. The lower floret is sterile; the lower lemma is similar in size and consistency to the upper glumes. The upper floret is bisexual, 1.1-1.7 mm long; the upper lemma is indurate.
Dichanthelium acuminatum is known from Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela. It grows in most conditions from wet to dry, sandy to clayey soils, woodlands, openings, wetlands, and near hot springs.
