Description

Culm height 15 - 100 cm.
Leaf 2 - 15   mm wide.
Terminal spike    staminate.
Lateral spike androgynous to pistillate.
Perigynium

circular to  subcircular to trigonous in cross section. 

Achene trigonous in cross section.

Habitat

Dry to seasonally wet forest and shrubland; often in volcanic soils.
