Description

Fruiting period June to August.
Culm height 20 - 120  cm.
Leaf 4 - 7  mm wide.
Terminal spike    androgynous.
Lateral spike pistillate to androgynous.
Perigynium

planoconvex  in cross section. 

Achene biconvex in cross section.
Style deciduous.

Habitat

Fens, wet meadows, wet roadside ditches.

Quick description

Usually a condensed panicle; perigynia with spongy tissue at base;
culm easily compresses between thumb and forefinger.
