Description

Fruiting period  May to July.
Culm height 20 - 80  cm.
Leaf 1 - 5   mm wide.
Terminal spike    usually unisexual, occasionally mixed.
Lateral spike usually unisexual.
Perigynium

planoconvex  in cross section. 

Achene biconvex in cross section.
Style deciduous.

Habitat

Fens, wet prairies; calcareous soils.
