Description

Fruiting period  May to July.
Culm height 20 - 80  cm.
Leaf 1 - 5   mm wide.
Terminal spike    gynecandrous.
Lateral spike gynecandrous to pistillate.
Perigynium

planoconvex to flat   in cross section. 

Achene biconvex in cross section.
Style deciduous.

Habitat

Sandy soils; beaches along the northeastern Atlantic shore of North America.

Quick description

Usually with well spaced spikes that are fusiform to ovate in shape.
