Description

Fruiting period April  to July.
Culm height 20 -90 cm.
Leaf 1.1 -  4.5 mm wide.
Terminal spike    gynecandrous.
Lateral spike pistillate to gynecandrous.
Perigynium planoconvex to biconvex  in cross section. 
Achene biconvex in cross section.
Style deciduous.

Habitat

Sphagnum dominated wet areas; bogs, acidic soils to
timberline; cosmopolitan.
